Recap | Seminar on Discrimination Complaints on Hr PoV

The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) together with Seyfarth Shaw (US) LLP Shanghai representative office are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the Seminar "Investigations into Discrimination Complaints from an HR manager point of view", held on November 21, 2023, in Shanghai.

After the introduction and opening remarks from Dr. Raymond Wong, Managing Partner of the firm's Hong Kong and Shanghai offices, Leon Mao, Counsel and Labor & Employment expert presented the China legal framework concerning Anti-discrimination, and the complex practice of internal investigations in the workplace supported by the benchmark case study “D. v New East Cuisine Education Co., Ltd.".

Leon's speech was followed by a panel moderated by Vittorio Franzese, Foreign Registered Lawyer for Shanghai and Hong Kong offices, which saw the participation of Carol Weng, Shanghai and Hong Kong Head of HR for Technogym, and Luca Leggieri, APAC HR Director for Pirelli as guest panelists. The panelists discussed the many challenges encountered by corporate HRs when adapting global DEI policies to specific cultural contexts, when efficiently carrying out internal investigations maintaining utmost discretion, as well as the impact that an effective adoption of such policies has on the brand image.

Many from the audience, mostly consisting of HR Directors of MNCs in China, intervened during the panel and the following Q&A showing interest and sharing their experiences on how to mitigate the risks of discriminative behaviors, creating the conditions for a healthy work environment in this new era.
