The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC), together with its Logistics Working Group (LWG), organized the webinar Facts & Figures: 2024 Review of the Logistics Sector on December 12th.
The webinar featured an in-depth analysis of the logistics market in 2024, with focused sessions on air freight, sea freight, and rail freight. It provided valuable insights into market rates and trends, route congestion updates, and anticipated adjustments to transit times.
The webinar was opened by Vincenzo Morano, CICC LWG Coordinator and Founder and Executive Director at Insider China, who welcomed the attendees and provided a brief introduction to the Logistics Working Group and its activities.
Following this, Danilo Sergi Alampi, General Manager at Shanghai Capital Logistic Transport Co., Ltd. Sisam Group, moderated the session, presenting the agenda and introducing the first speaker, Andrea De Sio, China Headquarter General Manager and Asia Pacific Coordinator. Mr. De Sio provided a comprehensive overview of the sea freight market across China, Italy, and Europe. He illustrated the increase in transit times resulting from the re-routing of shipping routes via the Cape of Good Hope and analyzed the significant shifts in global demand, concluding with forecasts for the coming months.
Jessica Wang, Head of Sales at Savino Del Bene, North China, then presented the Middle Corridor and the newly established “Europe-South Road-Xi’an” return route. This alternative route offers an innovative solution for the import of goods from the EU, bypassing Russian territory and thus avoiding the impact of EU sanctions. Ms. Wang highlighted the benefits of the route, including a simplified preparation process for relevant documentation and relaxed restrictions on the types of goods transported, ultimately providing greater convenience for customers.
Finally, Mario Tasso, Regional Account Manager APAC at JAS Global Forwardingand Vice Coordinator of the CICC Logistics Working Group (LWG), presented the 2024 airfreight market analysis. Mr. Tasso highlighted that the A/F market experienced significant impacts driven by increased demand from e-commerce players and traditional airfreight users, such as high-tech companies. This resulted in an overall cost increase of 10% compared to last year.
Looking ahead to 2025, the dynamics are expected to remain similar. Carriers are expected to raise rates by 15-20% due to high space demand and unbalanced flows are likely to persist.
The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce and its Logistics Working Group (LWG) extend their sincere gratitude to all speakers for their valuable contributions and to all attendees for their active participation.
If you are interested in following the insights of the logistics sector, we invite you to join the LWG by sending an email to sh.projects@cameraitacina.com
