CICC MEWG Intercompany Network at Marposs

19 十一月 2021

After the success of the company visits to Wuerth and Danieli, yesterday it was the turn of Marposs (Nanjing), which hosted the third company visit of the MEWG Intercompany Network, gathering almost 30 entrepreneurs.

The Intercompany Network is the series conceived by the Mechanical Engineering Working Group of the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) which brings together many Italian and foreign companies operating in the manufacturing sector.

Among the participants were Ms Alessandra Palumbo, Commercial Consul of the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai, Mr Paolo Bazzoni, CICC Chairman (connected via video conferencing), Ms Cinzia Sarli, Deputy Trade Commissioner of the Italian Trade Agency in Shanghai, Mr Ermanno Vitali, CICC Board Member based in Nanjing, Mr Lorenzo Riccardi, CICC Treasurer, Mr Carlo Nizia, MEWG Vice-Coordinator and Risk Management at UFI FILTERS, Mr Fabrizio Giambra, President of Marposs Nanjing Automation Co., LTD., and Mr Riccardo Budriesi, President of Marposs China.

CICC Chairman Bazzoni thanked Marposs and all the member companies present, providing an update on the strategic guidelines of the CICC. As he recalled, the mechanical sector is among the most important and representative of the membership base, since it brings together over 150 companies who represent Italian technological excellence in China. The Chamber, which today has reached almost 800 members and friends, continues to have as a priority the active support of our companies in the territories also through its Working Groups.

Mr Riccardo Budriesi, President of Marposs China Sales Company, and Mr Fabrizio Giambra, President of Marposs Nanjing Automation Company, gave a warm welcome to CICC members' visit at Marposs NJ Plant. They addressed that: “As a worldwide leader in measurement, inspection, testing and process monitoring solutions, Marposs designs and manufactures a wide range of products and applications. Marposs is a primary supplier in automotive and mechanical precision components manufacturers, machine tool makers, battery, energy and electrical vehicles producers, aerospace, biomedical and consumer electronics. Through the plant tour, our guests have the chance to learn about Marposs in NJ,  Hi-Tech Enterprise & Technology Center, able to combine in the same manufacturing site a wide range of our products, from a measuring cell up to complete measuring machines and assembly lines.  This company visit is a great way to present Marposs and reinforce the intercompany networking.” They appreciated a lot the organization from CICC and hoped all the visitors enjoy this special event to keep tight connections to each other.

The aim of the MEWG meetings is to foster closer relationships among CICC members and to address topics of common interest that can help companies develop more business or solve problems of various kinds. Among the topics covered, for example, are the discussion on the newly published tax incentives and the survey that the CICC Suzhou Chapter and the MEWG conducted respectively on energy and business sentiment.

Italian companies are heavily affected by the recent restrictions on power cuts and coerced production shutdowns often with a very short notice and lack of clear information – underlined Mr Vitali showing some data about the CICC Survey on Restriction for Power Consumption. 83% of respondents faced the problem of electricity cuts, and 70% have been contacted by local authorities for this issue. The majority of our companies suffered the suspension, reduction of electricity at least 2 days a week, from 8 to 24 hours, with very short notice: most of the respondents were notified by message within hours of the suspension of electricity.

The economic impact on company revenues is not yet really decipherable and it is not very predictable, but it is certainly significant. Numerous businesses, both large and small, are suffering across China, especially in Jiangsu Province.

In illustrating the results of the MEWG business sentiment survey, Mr Nizia pointed out the optimism and concerns of Italian manufacturing companies in China. 48% of our companies increased substantially (>20%) their revenue in China in 2021, compared to 2020, for more than 21% remained the same. The main concerns for 2022 are the supply chain, the procurement of raw materials, Logistics and Human Resources.

Another important hot topic for the manufacturing industry was addressed by Ms Giada Piccinini, Head of Shanghai Office and Senior Tax Advisor at GWA. She conducted an important discussion regarding the “Tax Relief Measures for Manufacturing Enterprises”. China’s tax burden is one of the key issues taken into account by companies operating in China. She analyzed and talked about tax relief measures applicable for different type of manufacturing companies and practical suggestions for optimizing their financial position.

The company visit, during which the success of Marposs in China since 1986 was shared, helped our members to find new motivations and sources of inspiration.

The CICC would like to express our special thanks to all the participants and Marposs Nanjing for offering us this important company tour.
