In the past weeks, CICC Chairman Lorenzo Riccardi met with Frank Schmiedel, First Counsellor at DG GROW, and Liam Jia, Team Leader at the EU SME Centre, to discuss Europe–China economic relations in the current geopolitical context. The discussion covered topics such as SMEs, Made in Italy, double taxation treaties, social welfare agreements, tariffs, the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), as well as the challenges and opportunities for Italian and European companies operating in China.
The meeting also focused on strengthening institutional dialogue and identifying areas for future collaboration between the EU institutions and Italian business communities in China. Both sides highlighted the importance of supporting SMEs through information-sharing platforms, capacity-building initiatives, and policy advocacy, while fostering a more transparent and predictable business environment for European investors.
