CICC Shanghai Seminar on Artificial Intelligence

The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC), in collaboration with its Intellectual Property Working Group (IPWG), is pleased to announce the seminar titled “Artificial Intelligence: Between Law and Intellectual Property”. The event will be held on 12th March 2025 at 4 pm (China Time) in Shanghai.

In recent weeks, news of a Chinese company developing and launching an AI large language model comparable to the most advanced American models has taken the world by storm.

It comes as no surprise, then, that China has been actively working on establishing a comprehensive legal framework to regulate artificial intelligence (AI), with a particular focus on areas such as intellectual property (IP) rights, ethical standards, and technological innovation.

This seminar will address the legal challenges and concerns within the realm of artificial intelligence, with a special focus on the Chinese context.

Particularly, our experts will focus on the following key areas:

  • Patentability of AI Innovations in China: the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) has issued guidelines to clarify the patentability criteria for AI-related inventions.
  • Regulations on Generative AI Services: in August 2023, China introduced the “Interim Measures for the Management of Generative Artificial Intelligence Services,” which regulate public-facing generative AI technologies.
  • IP infringements and Artificial Intelligence: Developers and users of large language models (LLMs) must be aware of intellectual property laws related to the training data, model architecture, and output. It is crucial to ensure compliance with copyright, patent, trademark, and trade secret protections.
