Social Insurance Law for Foreigners – One Year Later

  Last year China decided on a new Social Insurance Law for Foreigners, and Beijing was the first city to implement it. CICC has already discussed the new social insurance law for foreigners just before its implementation, but now one year has passed, and it`s time to see where we actually stand.   - What has actually changed for expatriates and employers? - What are the differences between the different regions? - What are the future tendencies?   To answer these questions and more for you, we are proud to announce that our speakers of the day will be Chet Scheltema from Dezan Shira and Kristie Tien from HIL Lawyers.   Speaker Biography   • Chet Scheltema, Senior Associate, Business Development at Dezan Shira Chet Scheltema is a member of the Business Development team of Dezan Shira & Associates. Prior to joining Dezan Shira & Associates, Chet was Director of Property and Real Estate for China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) in Beijing, where he managed the CNOOC Tower and several other facilities and projects in Beijing. Chet is a licensed US attorney and practiced business law in the US for 5+ years. Chet earned a law degree (JD) from the University of Illinois, an MBA from Cambridge University, and a bachelor degree from San Diego State University. • Krisite Tien - Lawyer at HIL Kristie Tien holds a bachelor`s and master`s degree in Dutch law from University of Amsterdam. She also obtained an LL.M degree in International Law and Human Rights Protection from Universidad de Alcala in Spain. She worked for one year at the research department of a European Union agency in Vienna. Currently, she works at HIL`s Shanghai and Beijing offices. She specializes in corporate law (including foreign direct investment and M&A), commercial law (including sales, agency, sourcing, distribution and supply agreements), and social security law. She has assisted many foreign clients with the incorporation and implementation of a subsidiary in China (including WFOEs and Joint Ventures).
