POST EVENT - Webinar: POSITION PAPER EUCCC - 29 September 2020

Beijing
29 September 2020
Dear Members and Friends of the CCIC, The "Position Paper EUCCC" webinar organized by China-Italy Chamber of Commerce CICC in collaboration with the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China EUCCC , took place online and offline at the CCIC office in Beijing, on 29 September 2020. The Position Paper is the annual document of the EUCCC that provides the Chinese government with suggestions on different sectors to improve cooperation between European and Chinese institutions. The below listed speakers, Massimo Bagnasco, EUCCC Vice President Sara Marchetta, EUCCC States' Representative in Executive Committee Carlo D'Andrea EUCCC Shanghai Chapter Chairman - Vice President Coordinated by Matteo Tanteri, Vice Chairman CICC, presented the actual scenario of the Position Paper. The speakers’ analysis highlighted the more traditional issues that the Chinese market is facing such as the demographic difficulties related to the aging of the population which still negatively affects the Chinese demography in addition to the most recent issues such as the decoupling and the COVID-19 epidemic threat. The analysis showed the GDP per capita in China still shows signs of strength on the long run when compared to neighbour countries but this growth must be supported by market reforms to address SOE waste/inefficiency, technology and expertise to boost productivity and overcome demographic crisis and institutions-building to lay a predictable foundation for the next stage of development. The discussion highlighted how China’s dichotomies drive uncertainty about its direction, dichotomies such as the “One economy, two systems”, the market access, the wolf warrior diplomacy and the rhetoric vs the reality, the latter meaning how certain politics on rhetoric will really be reflected in reality once implemented. The analysis moved then on the CAI, the comprehensive agreement on investments, explaining the agreement should be directed to strengthen the investment screening, specifically on state-backed capital, used as an international procurement instrument and faced toward investment deals with third markets. The hope is that China and the EU will also deepen their engagement in other areas of common interest such in diversifying ties beyond business in a relationship that can beneficially return into real results. The event terminated with questions, moderated by Matteo Tanteri, Vice Chairman CICC, that led to a confrontation about the actual and future outlook and toolkit the Position Paper will bring to improve cooperation between European and Chinese business and cooperation reality For more info please send an email to info@cameraitacina.com   Kind Regards, CICC Team
