WEBINAR | Understanding EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)

    Beijing
    15 May 2024
Dear Members and Friends, Join us for an insightful seminar!   The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) together with its Energy and Environment Protection Working Group (EEPWG) is glad to invite you to a webinar on the EU's innovative tool, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) on Wednesday, May 15th at 15:00 pm, Beijing Time (9:00 am Rome time). The seminar aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of CBAM, its objectives, implementation phases, and impact for companies.   BACKGROUND The EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is the EU's tool to put a fair price on the carbon emitted during the production of carbon intensive goods that are entering the EU, and to encourage cleaner industrial production in non-EU countries. By confirming that a price has been paid for the embedded carbon emissions generated in the production of certain goods imported into the EU, the CBAM will ensure the carbon price of imports is equivalent to the carbon price of domestic production, and that the EU's climate objectives are not undermined. The CBAM is designed to be compatible with WTO rules. CBAM will apply in its definitive regime from 2026, while the current transitional phase lasts between 2023 and 2026. This gradual introduction of the CBAM is aligned with the phase-out of the allocation of free allowances under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) to support the decarbonisation of EU industry.   AGENDA 15:00-15:05 Introduction – Teti Licursi – Coordinator, Energy and Environment Protection Working Group (EEPWG) 15:05-15:20 China Overview on Carbon Emissions – Ma Jingjing, NORDIQ Group 15:20-15:50 Understanding CBAM - Pietro Valaguzza & Giorgio Bonvicini, RINA Consulting S.p.A. Introduction to CBAM CBAM Implementation Phases Implications for Businesses and Authorities Future Outlook and Review   15:50-16:00 Open discussion and Q&A   Moderator: Luigi Fiato – Vice Coordinator, Energy and Environment Protection Working Group (EEPWG)   KEY TAKEAWAYS Understand the mechanics of CBAM and its role in promoting cleaner industrial production. Learn about the reporting requirements and methodologies for calculating embedded emissions. Explore the potential impact of CBAM on businesses and global climate objectives. Get insights into the future evolution of CBAM and its implications for various sectors. Note: The seminar content is subject to updates based on the latest developments in the implementation of CBAM.   REGISTER NOW!   EVENT DETAILS Date: 15 May 2024 Time: 15:00 pm CST (9:00 am CET) Place: Online via Zoom Language: English Price: Free of charge   Join our Working Group in shaping a sustainable future through informed climate policies!   About Energy & Environment Protection Working Group (EEPWG) EEPWG welcomes all Italian companies, entities, and individuals operating within the energy and environmental protection industrial sectors along the relative value chains (upstream, downstream, fossil energy, renewable energy, distribution, consumption, emission/water/waste/soil treatment, energy saving, etc.).
