Post Event - The Third Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Expo

The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce is glad to announce that the 3rd Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Expo closed gracefully in Suzhou on September 25th, with offline traffic visits of more than 136,000 visitors, while online audience of 270 million viewers. As part of this great success, the participation of Italy showcased its industry excellence, beauty of the territory at a world level.

As the curtains go up in Suzhou for the much-awaited Expo, Michele Cecchi, Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, delivered his opening remarks emphasizing the importance of the Expo as "an opportunity to strengthen relations between Italy and China in the economic, cultural and tourism sectors, sectors to which our national pavilion is dedicated, with a particular focus on creativity and Italian production excellence".

Among the VIP guests at the Ceremony: Cristiano Varotti, Chief Representative of Italian National Tourist Board Shanghai Office, Valtero Canepa, Vice Chairman of CICC Shanghai, Lorenzo Riccardi, CFO of CICC, Ermanno Vitali, board member of CICC, Chen Wei CICC Shanghai office manager.

Vice governor of Jiangsu province visited the Italian National Pavilion, a brief introduction of the country and exhibition was provided by CICC Shanghai Office manager Chen Wei.

As the protagonist of the international pavilions, Italian National Pavilion offers to the audience the essence of “made in Italy”. The visual design is adorned by the Italian designer Angelini, speaks about “bridges “or the common value and connection between two countries through a metaphor of graphics.

The presence of “Industria Italiana Suzhou”, speaks the success story of Italian industrial companies that binds Italy to Suzhou - a twin city with Venice since 1980. The city of Suzhou is considered the seat of the main "Italian industrial district" outside Europe. About 170 Italian companies operate there in the sectors of advanced mechanics, electronics, automotive, medical, textile, chemicals, cosmetics and services, present in the main industrial parks of the city (Suzhou Industrial Park SIP; Suzhou National New & Hi -tech Industrial Development Zone; Wujiang District; Zhangjiagang District).


ENIT, Italian National Tourist Board, provides a virtual tour to Italy. Cristiano Varotti, chief representative expressed his appreciation of the event and highlighted the importance of cultural and tourism exchange through collaboration with local enterprises at the interview with Xinhua News .
Jiangsu province is one of the most advanced hubs for the Chinese travel industries with top players like Tongcheng-Elong, based in Suzhou and one of the major online travel platforms in China. Suzhou and Nanjing are in the top 10 among the cities of origin of Chinese tourists visiting Italy. Jiangsu Province has a very advanced brand positioning and marketing strategy to attract travelers from international markets, that they are the perfect partner for cooperation with Italy. Jiangsu is the province with the highest number of partnerships with Italian regions such as Tuscany, Veneto and Marche, then Venice and Suzhou, Florence and Nanjing.”

Football indisputably is one of distinguished culture and sports aspect of Italy. Inter Milan Club’s presence attracted many of its fans to visit from far, champion trophy highlighted their glorious winner ship of Seria A .

AS Roma Club brought to live their wolf mascot to interact with their fans. One of their fans also brought his Chinese painting to inaugurate the team.


More than ten food and beverage companies and brands presented their authentic Italian products, that attracted majority visitors to taste and learn about the Italian lifestyle.
