New Personal Information Protection Law: What's New?

18 October 2021

On October 14th 2021, the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) organized, together with Wang Jing & GH Law Firm and Exprivia IT Solutions Co. Ltd, the seminar "The New Personal Information Protection Law". More than 20 companies joined the event offline.

Data Protection is perhaps one of the most debated issues today. On August 20th 2021, China has promulgated the Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL), which will take effect on November 1st 2021.

Serving as China’s first comprehensive law in the personal information protection area, together with the Cybersecurity Law, and the Data Security Law, it will form an over-arching framework to govern data protection, data security and cybersecurity in China for years to come.

Our speakers first introduced the New Law for a basic understanding of the new challenges posed by PIPL and explained key topics related to how process data lawfully and what to do in case of a cyber attack.

Also, both speakers touch based on how to legally store your data, how to technically protect it and how to gain consent before sharing data externally.

Focusing on data protection and related aspects, the speakers also analyzed the impact on business and on data transfer, as well as its influence on foreign investors, providing real and practical examples of security measures helpful to reduce legal risks.

We would like to thank all the partners and attendees for their support.
