Training Session I: Step-by-step Guide for IP Registration with Customs

20 Maggio 2022

The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) organized the first session of the training programIP protection through Customs” on May 17th. In this first training, experts from our Intellectual Property Working Group (IPWG) and the China IP SME Helpdesk provided a step-by-step guide to the participants on formalities and regulations for IP registration and enforcement with customs.

On the occasion, Mr Raffaello Girotto, Legal Attaché at the Italian Embassy in Beijing, provided an overview of China’s IP policy framework with takeaways from recent Chinese policy documents and official reports on IP customs protection.

Why Registering to the customs for IP Protection? Customs will take proactive actions to check infringed goods and start investigations upon infringement only for registered products.

Our first expert Ms Eloisa Hu, Wang Jing & GH Lawfirm, discussed the issue providing a comprehensive overview of registration procedures including documents needed and costs necessary to obtain IP protection for trademarks, Patents and Copyrights.

Our second expert, Mr Charles Feng, East & Concord Partners, advised that Customs protection requires not only procedural experience but also comprehensive knowledge and experience of IP law in China. What is critical in the process? Communication skills with both European clients and the Chinese government are critical according to Mr Feng.

The training session was moderated by Mr Carlo Geremia, CICC Intellectual Property Working Group Coordinator.
