EVENT RECAP | Summer Drinks and Company Law Update at Seyfarth

On July 16th, 2024, Seyfarth Shaw LLP Shanghai Representative Office, in collaboration with the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC), hosted a compelling event entitled Summer Drinks and Company Law Update: Major Changes of Importance to Foreign Investors in China in the firm’s Shanghai Office at Kerry Center. This event aimed to enlighten foreign investors and companies about recent significant legal updates in China.

The event saw the participation of around 40 attendees, and it allowed them to gain insights from experienced legal experts, marking the occasion as both educational and engaging.

The program addressed several pivotal topics, including the new rules involving capital contributions, and practical implications concerning their compliance, the corporate governance structure and redistribution of responsibilities, and what to pay attention to under the new mandatory quorum requirements.

The above-mentioned topics were discussed by Ken Tang, Senior Associate, Vittorio Franzese, Registered Foreign Lawyer (Italy) and Raymond Wong, Managing Partner. Their presentations shed light on the practical implications of recent legal changes, offering attendees a deeper understanding of the evolving legal landscape in China. The seminar was a great opportunity to discuss major legal implications, especially under the point of view of foreign investors and companies, concerning the the new version of the Company Law of The People's Republic of China which have come into effect on July 1st, 2024.

Following the presentations, a Q&A session allowed attendees to interact directly with the speakers. Participants asked a range of questions, seeking further clarification and insights on the discussed topics. The session underscored the relevance of the legal updates and their impact on foreign businesses operating in China.

The event ended with a networking aperitif, where participants enjoyed drinks and appetizers, fostering a relaxed environment for networking. This informal setting allowed attendees to connect with industry peers, legal experts, and Seyfarth Shaw representatives, facilitating meaningful discussions and potential collaborations.
