EVENT RECAP | Facts and Figures about the First Half of 2024

26 Giugno 2024

The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) together with its Logistics Working Group (LWG) organized the webinar “Facts and Figures about the First Half of 2024” on the logistics sector, on June 20th.

The seminar provided a thorough overview of the logistics market situation in the first six months of the year, current trends and logistics challenges, covering three main topics: the air shipment, sea shipment and train shipment, including rates market, the routes congestion and possible adjustment on the transit times in the face of the current geopolitical situation.

The webinar was opened by Vincenzo Morano, CICC LWG Coordinator and Founder and Executive Director at InsiderChina, who welcomed the attendees and briefly introduced the Logistics Working Group and its activities.

Following, moderator Danilo Sergi Alampi, General Manager at Shanghai Capital Logistic Transport Co., Ltd. Sisam Group, presented the agenda and gave the floor to the first speaker, Andrea De Sio, Office Manager of GF Logistics China Limited, who provided an overview of the sea situation with a focus on the Chinese, Italian and European market. He showed how the transit times increased following the shipping re-routing through the Cape of Good Hope and showed how the global demand is undergoing major changes as well as presenting the forecast for the following months.

Kerong Wang, BD at CHINA RAILWAY TIELONG CONTAINER LOGISTICS, talked about the railway market between China and Europe presenting an overview of China Railway Express, its advantages and cross-border transactions. He showed how since May 2024, the cumulative number of China-Europe Railway Express trains exceeded 90,000. He also provided a complete comparison of the railway, sea freight and air freight.

Finally, Mario Tasso, Regional Account Manager APAC at JAS Global Forwarding and CICC LWG Vice Coordinator, presented the airfreight market outlook. He underlined that the international air cargo capacity is up by 10% in 2024 compared to pre Covid levels but direct air-cargo capacity from Asia to Europe is lower than 2019, given the airspace closure and e-commerce boom in the current market that continue to shape the capacity developments.

The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce and its Logistics Working Group want to thank all the speakers for their valuable contributions and all attendees for their presence.
