Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Expo - Participation of Italy

Dear members and friends,

The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) is pleased to inform you that the Grand Canal Culture & Tourism Expo will be held at the Suzhou Exhibition Center from September 23rd to 25th 2021. Italy will take part in the expo with an Italian National Pavilion organized by the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai together with CICC. 

Italy is known for the beauty of its territory and for its historical artistic heritage at a world level. It is the country with the largest number of UNESCO heritage sites (58) and home to universities and academies with longest history in the world. This capital of culture, beauty and creativity is also the basis on which Italian “know-how” rests, which over the centuries has produced and continues to produce knowledge and generate innovation in all sectors. Investments in scientific research and technological innovation have made Italy a leading manufacturing country in Europe. The "Made in Italy" is in fact the ability to transform knowledge into innovative and tailor-made products and solutions thanks to cutting-edge technological production chains, also present in China, in particular in Suzhou.

The ties that bind Italy to Suzhou, a twin city with Venice since 1980, are very strong. The city of Suzhou is considered the seat of the main "Italian industrial district" outside Europe. About 170 Italian companies operate there in the sectors of advanced mechanics, electronics, automotive, medical, textile, chemicals, cosmetics and services, present in the main industrial parks of the city (Suzhou Industrial Park SIP; Suzhou National New & Hi -tech Industrial Development Zone; Wujiang District; Zhangjiagang District).

The Italian companies in Suzhou constitute a cluster of excellence, which replicates in China the production chains rich in technological know-how, and therefore the best of Italian “know-how”. For this reason, on the occasion of the Grand Canal Expo, Italy has dedicated a space for the "Italian Industry in Suzhou" in its pavilion.
