Take Aways | IP Monetization: Using IP to Finance Your Business

30 May 2022

The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) organized the roundtableIP Monetization: Using Intellectual Property to Finance Your Business” on May 23rd. We invited enterprises to meet local banks representatives to discuss how to use IP rights as pledge to obtain funds from a bank or other financial institutions. This practice is backed by government incentive recently implemented to support companies.

Why is relevant? Intellectual Property financing increases an enterprise’s visibility and value, in particular in view of corporate transactions such as equity transfer, restructuring or listing on a stock exchange.

Mr Lucas Liu, Partner at Beijing Zhongjinhao Assets Appraisal, remarked the advantages for enterprises such as cost reduction thanks to governmental subsidies covering a portion of the loan interests and increasing awareness of the intellectual property value and protection.

Our second speaker, Mr Sun Mengli, Bank of China, advised on the strong policy and regulatory framework at a national level encouraging IP financing and the criteria to benefit from the use of these special products.

Ms Elaine Feng, Bank of Shanghai, discussed how banks can support the borrower along the process and detailed the use of combined pledge loans.

The meeting was opened by Mr Raffaello Girotto, Legal Attaché of the Embassy of Italy to the P.R.C., and moderated by Mr Carlo Geremia, CICC Intellectual Property Working Group Coordinator.
