On April 9, 2025, the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) in collaboration with its Healthcare Working Group (HCWG), the Italian Trade Agency and the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai successfully hosted the seminar “Italian Innovation in Healthcare – Exploring Excellence in Biotech, Pharma and AI”. The event took place in proximity of the Italian ICE Pavillion at the CMEF 2025 Exhibition—one of the world’s leading trade shows for medical equipment—held in Shanghai from April 8 to 11.
During the seminar, the participants had the opportunity to listen to insightful speeches on strategic themes, such as innovation in life sciences, AI applications in healthcare, vaccine development, and above all, the potential for deeper Italy-China collaboration in the MedTech sector. The discussions highlighted how complementary strengths, shared priorities, and strong research ecosystems in both countries can drive meaningful progress in global health.
A contingent of more than 40 people, including professionals from healthcare, biotech, pharma, AI, and other sectors, attended the seminar.
Opening remarks were delivered by the Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, Tiziana D'Angelo, while the seminar was moderated by Augusto Di Giacinto, Director of the Italian Trade Agency.

The event fostered valuable networking opportunities that could lead to scientific and business collaborations. It gave Italian companies, the opportunity to showcase their innovative solutions and best practices; underlining Italy’s crucial role in contributing to global healthcare innovation.

The Italian Pavilion at 91st CMEF
The 91st China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF) is set to open grandly on April 8-11 at the Shanghai National Convention and Exhibition Center. A notable highlight of this year's event is the participation of the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), which will once again lead a national pavilion comprising 15 leading Italian companies. The pavilion will showcase the innovative achievements of "Made in Italy" in high-end medical equipment, sustainable technologies, and human-centered solutions, addressing the global medical industry's demand for sustainable development and improved diagnostic efficiency. ITA cordially invite you to visit the Italy Pavilion in Hall 5.2 of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). Engage with transformative medical innovations, explore industry trends, and witness the evolution of Italy-China collaborative excellence.

The China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF), is the most important medical industry event in China and is one of the global leaders in the medical device value chain, covering a wide range of products and technology, new device launches, procurement and trade, scientific collaboration, academic forums, brand promotion, education and training.
About Healthcare Working Group (HCWG)
The HCWG includes all the companies working in the healthcare sector, such as manufacturing companies of medical equipment, devices or pharmaceutical products and supply of IT solutions. The initiative to create a network of companies operating in the healthcare sector was activated by the Embassy of Italy in the P.R.C.
The first tangible result of this initiative was the publication of "Pacchetto di cooperazione sino-italiana", presented at Chinese counterparts during the visit of the Italian Minister of Economic Development, Flavio Zanonato, in January 2014. The HCWG is committed to promote awareness of the know-how and quality of Italian products and companies in the healthcare sector in China and to share industry information between operators to maximize business opportunities.
