Dear Members and Friends of CICC,
On Monday October 30th 2017, at the Italian Institute of Culture, the first Beijing edition of Made in Italy 2.0.2.0 was organised by iStarter with the support of the Italian Embassy in Beijing, the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce and the Chinese financial service branch Caixin Insight in Beijing.
Made in Italy 2.0.2.0 is the event designed to give Chinese institutional investors exclusive access to the most promising startups from Italy seeking to enter the Chinese market with local investors.
Over 100 selected invitees, from Business Angels, Venture Capitalists, PE, Equity Partners, the Italian Business Community in China, and Chinese Government Representatives participated.
Nine hand-picked startups were presented on the stage, among which Goldman Sachs nominees, B-Corp "Best for the World" winners, and Pioneers Asia Challenge finalist. Startups include Artificial Intelligence, Wearable Robotics, Financial Technology, Medical Technology, E-Learning / Corporate Training, Biomedical Science, and Space Systems sectors.
The ceremony was opened by the Institutional greetings by the Italian Ambassador to PRC, Ettore F. Sequi, and the Coordinator of the ITA offices in China, Amedeo Scarpa, whose speeches stressed the potential of Italian entrepreneurial spirit and creativity, as well as the importance of the strategic cooperation between China and Italy. Welcome remarks by the President of iStarter, Nicola Garelli, and the President of Caixin Insight, Erji Gao, followed.
After that, the CEOs of the nine Made in Italy 2.0.2.0 finalists introduced their own companies:
After start-up pitches, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Managing Director at iStarter, Simone Cimminelli, and the President at Caixin Insight, Erji Gao. The closing speech was then delivered by the Chairman at China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, Davide Cucino.
The evening proceeded with a networking session at the Ambassador Residence that allowed guests to undertake further insightful discussions.
The day after the event, on Tuesday October 31st 2017, startup founders held private meetings with the respective investors and key players in their sectors at the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce office in Beijing.
Kindly,
CICC Team
