On September 23rd, the China Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC)hosted the seminar “Navigating Global Trade and Subsidies Regulation: Business Strategies for Compliance and Opportunities” in collaboration with Deloitte. Experts from Deloitte team shared key updates on global trade policies, protectionist measures, and the EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR), offering practical recommendations for businesses operating in international markets.

  • Global Trade Dynamics 2025: Riccardo Cima, Senior Consultant, Global Trade Advisory at Deloitte analyzed the shift toward protectionism, including rising tariffs, export controls, and sanctions, with discussions on the impact of U.S. trade policies, Chinese retaliatory measures, and trade negotiations shaping the global trade landscape.
  • Mitigation Strategies for Global Value Chains: Practical solutions were presented such as customs origin engineering, Free Trade Zones, scenario planning, and supply chain risk mapping to help companies reduce the impact of tariffs and trade restrictions while optimizing operations.
  • EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR): Ludovico Musso Piantelli, Senior Consultant, Government Grants, Credits & Incentives (GI3), at Deloitte provided insights into compliance requirements for companies receiving foreign financial contributions, including M&A transactions and public procurement, with emphasis on reporting obligations, potential penalties, and best practices for proactive readiness.

 

The seminar highlighted the importance for businesses to adapt to the fragmented global trade environment through strategic risk management, compliance readiness, and the proactive use of EU and Italy funding opportunities to remain competitive in an increasingly complex international market.
