The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) and its Intellectual Property Working Group (IPWG) organized the first series of IPeritif - networking events where IP experts meet and discuss issues of common interest, and expand the network. The first event of this series was held at Vetiver on October 20th, 2022.
Overall, 25 guests joined the event, showing a deep interest in the topics addressed. The discussion was moderated by Guilherme Campos, IPWG Vice Coordinator and Manager at Dezan Shira & Associates Ltd.
The discussion was opened by Carlo Geremia, IPWG Coordinator and Senior Counsel at ADVANT Nctm, who provided a brief introduction to the Intellectual Property Working Group, presenting the group's forthcoming activities and events.
The next speaker Maurizia Galvan, founder of Xiao Mao Luxury Wines, exposed the interesting and innovative reality of NFT in China. Being the first Italian to use NFT artwork as a new business development model and marketing strategy, Maurizia Galvan represents a primary example of an original and inventive entrepreneur.
小毛 Xiao Mao Luxury Wines creates preciously decorated wine bottles, which become pieces of art and furniture enhanced by unique designs and ideas. By doing so, the company aims to renovate the sector of Italian wine, which despite being increasingly appreciated by Chinese consumers, has still large growth potential.
Maurizia Galvan described how the combination of the NFT market in China and the emergence of the metaverse allow for the breakthrough of regulatory restrictions, representing an unprecedented opportunity from the business development strategy perspective.
The discussion focused on the complex reality existing beyond NFTs and their tremendous potential, with several questions being asked by guests.
"I think the event created large interest; many questions have been asked and we took part in a nice interaction and exchange of ideas. The NFT has enormous potential and I believe it is important to elaborate on the argument. This apparatus must be considered as: (1) an ideal marketing tool; (2) a strategy of approach for a new market, which provides substantial cost reduction opportunities despite the COVID pandemic; (3) an important device used for the creation of an IP; (4) despite having existed for several years, it is a largely unknown instrument which could be used to strengthen brand image; (5) a tool to perform secondary trading, an activity that may result largely profitable (once the IP has gained value, it is moved across border and included/published on platforms such as Opensea and Blockbar, where the secondary trading practices take place." - Maurizia Galvan, founder of Xiao Mao Luxury Wines
"IPWG will keep CICC members abreast of the intellectual property aspects of the non-fungible tokens (NFTs)”, Carlo Geremia concluded.
Special thanks to Vetiver - Jewel Safary, who hosted the first event of our new IPeritif series.
