CICC History at the National Library and MAECI Archive in Rome

25 July 2025

As part of its ongoing commitment to preserving and promoting the legacy of Italian business in China, the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) has launched a historical research initiative focused on the roots of the Italian business community and the first establishment of the Italian Chamber in China.

CICC Chairman Lorenzo Riccardi visited the National Central Library in Rome and involved the Historical Archive of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) to access original newspapers, magazines, and official documents tracing the origins of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China and in the Far East.

This research aims to reconstruct key milestones in the development of Italy’s institutional presence and business networks in Asia, shedding light on the foundations of today’s bilateral economic cooperation. The findings will contribute to a broader publication on the history of the CICC and Italian enterprise in the region.
