Industrial Design Forum: Sustainability in Industrial Design, Trends & Opportunities, Oct 20

The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC), in cooperation with the Consulate General of Italy in Guangzhou, cordially invites you to the webinar "Industrial Design Forum: Sustainability in Industrial Design, Trends and Opportunities”, in partnership with the Shenzhen Industrial Design Professional Association (SIDA), to be held on Thursday, October 20 from 16:00 pm, only ONLINE.

The seminar will be part of the Festival of Sustainable Development 2022, the largest Italian initiative to raise awareness and mobilize citizens, young generations, companies, associations and institutions on the issues of economic, social and environmental sustainability, spread the culture of sustainability and foster a cultural and political change that allows Italy to implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda and achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Shenzhen: The South China Design Hub

Shenzhen and some Italian cities such as Bologna, Turin and Fabriano are all members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The Shenzhen Design Week and Milan Design Week are both members of the World Design Weeks (WDW).

In the development over the past 4 decades, Shenzhen design has been an indispensable part of Chinese design. Today, the number of industrial designers in Shenzhen exceeds 150,000, distributed in more than 1,400 industrial design professional companies, including more than 700 high-tech enterprises. In 2020, the total output value of industrial design in Shenzhen achieved 13,456 billion RMB, driving the economic value of downstream industries to more than 100 billion RMB.

Shirley Feng,

President of Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association (SIDA)

Shirley Feng is Member of the CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference) of Guangdong Province, member of the 5th and 6th CPPCC of Shenzhen Municipality, President of Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association, Founder of Sino-Finnish Design Park, Director of Hebei Industrial Design Innovation Center and Chief Executive Officer of Xiongan Future Industrial Desgn Institute. 
She has won honors such as Guangdong Labor Day Medal, the 2019 China Industry-University-Research Craftsman Spirit Award, Golden Medal of Contribution for Chinese Design, Special Award for 70 Chinese Design Contributors at 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the PRC, the 5th Guangdong Province Outstanding Builders of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, Shenzhen High-level Professional Talent, Shenzhener of the Age, the Top Ten Outstanding Young Persons in Shenzhen, the Top Ten Leaders of China's Creative Industry of The Year, Top ten Economic Figures in Hebei, Advanced Individual in High-quality Construction and Development of Xiongan New Area, the 2021 Top 100 Design Promoters in China's Design Industry and many other honorary titles.

 

Nina Niu,

Deputy Secretary General of Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association (SIDA)

Nina Niu is Deputy Secretary General and Head of Global Business & Cooperation Division of Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association (SIDA), as well as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Xiongan Future Industrial Design Institute, Deputy Secretary General of Goldreed Industrial Design Award. Nina is mainly responsible for SIDA’ s foreign projects cooperation, public relations and event promotion, etc..

 

Enza Migliore,

Assistant Professor at School of Design, SUSTech

Enza Migliore is a design researcher and educator in the field of product and materials. Her focus is on the interdisciplinary collaboration between Materials Science, Design, and Art, and on practices of Experimental and Critical Design. After obtaining her MSc in Industrial Design at La Sapienza University of Rome, Enza obtained a Ph.D. in Design and Innovation from Seconda Università of Napoli with a thesis on the hybridization of methods and tools of Design and Materials Sciences applied to material porosity. MIGLIORE collaborates with chemists to envision new materials’ scenarios, meanings, opportunities, and knowledge. MIGLIORE has been awarded a Post-Doctoral Research fellowship by the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MIUR). Her investigation (2017-2019), conducted at Metropolitan University of Tokyo, is about a critical perspective on materials and exhibited at Tokyo Designart 2019. MIGLIORE has been a design tutor at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in 2020 and, before that, a lecturer and teaching assistant at Universities in Italy, Japan, and China. She has been member of the editorial board of the academic journal diid (2013-2019). She is guest researcher at IPCB (Italian National Research Council), at Hybrid Design Lab, at the FoamLab (Federico II University of Naples); a design director at the Architecture Studio Atelierba in Shanghai and a writer for the Tokyo web magazine ADF.

 

Anton Garland,

Designer and Head of Product and New Mobility at Icona

Anton Garland was born in New Zealand and has been a professional designer since 2010.

He studied Transportation and Boat Design in Massey University New Zealand before moving to Sweden in 2009 to study a Masters in Transportation Design at the Umea Institute of Design.

In 2010, Anton moved to China, and until 2018, specialised in the automotive field working on interior and exterior design programs. He has designed and developed multiple production and concept cars, managing these projects for Chinese and International clients including FAW, Geely, SAIC, Hi-Phi, Lamborghini, Subaru and more.

In 2018 Anton helped create Icona’s Mobility and Industrial design department bringing the skills he developed in the automotive industry along with his passion for emotional design and storytelling and has since led the team designing and producing products with many leading companies including Lenovo, Yadea, Segway – Ninebot, 90Go, Xiaopeng, JD, Meituan and Hi-Phi, and Delonghi.

 

Patrizio Cionfoli,

Design Director at Studio Volpi 

 With a Degree in Industrial Design from Polytechnic University of Milan, Patrizio Cionfoli started his career in 1993 as interior designer. In 2005 he took the lead of the Dishwashing Design Team of Whirlpool Global Consumer Design. After being promoted to lead the design of all Whirlpool European Refrigerator appliances in 2010, Kitchen Aid chose him in 2016 as Global Brand Lead Designer. He increased his brand portfolio responsibility guiding projects for EMEA brands like Indesit, Hotpoint, IKEA, Privileg and Bauknecht. Professor of Master of Design Management for “Il sole 24 Ore”, he is part of Integrated Product Design steering committee for  Polytechnic University of Milan . Patrizio Cionfoli is now Design Director for Studio Volpi, in charge of international projects spanning from consumer products to Space Design.

Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association (SIDA)

The Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association (SIDA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2008 with only 48 member units. At present, it has more than 900 member units from Shenzhen and across the country, aiming to dock industries and connect the global, providing industry services including industry research, policy interpretation, industry docking, industry exchanges, resource optimization, and project landing.

With 108 staff at its secretariat, SIDA has become the largest professional association for industrial design in China, and as the first industry organization to join in World Design Organization (WDO), it has also obtained authorization from iF, Red-dot, G-mark an IDEA to work on global exchanges and cooperation of industrial design, thus developing Shenzhen industrial design towards Cloud-platform, Globalization, and Branding.
