Co-founded by the City of Suzhou and the Suzhou Industrial Park in 2016, the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra (SZS) has positioned itself as one of China’s most dynamic orchestras. Characterized by experience combined with youth, the musicians of the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra represent 18 countries/regions across four continents. The "Best Practice of SZS", as a model of the reform of domestic performing arts industry, was promoted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Under the stewardship of Music Director CHEN Xieyang and Chief Conductor XU Zhong, the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra has conceived challenging, illuminating and entertaining programs that encompass a broad range of repertoire with stylistic diversity and technical rigor. Since its inception the orchestra has enjoyed prestigious collaboration with such musical luminaries and orchestras as Roberto Abbado, Christof Eschenbach, Jaap van Zweden, Daniel Oren, Christian Arming, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Maxim Vengerov, Angela Gheorghiu, Xincao Li, Guoyong Zhang, Tan Dun, Tsung Yeh, Xian Zhang, Lio Kuokman, Jian Wang, Shikun Liu, Bright Sheng, He Hui, Guang Yang, Liwei Qin, Siqing Lv, Feng Ning, Xuefei Yang and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, among others.

From 2017, the SZS presented the Jinji Lake International Piano Competition and Jinji Lake International Composition Competition. In July 2023, the "Dedication to The Journey" was selected as the National Excellent Symphony Works, and in October, it was awarded the "Excellent Repertoire Award" of 2023 Zijin Culture and Art Festival. In addition, the orchestra has been invited to participate in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's "Happy Spring Festival", "Meet Beijing" Olympic Culture Festival, CCTV Mid-Autumn Festival Gala and other major projects.
