On April 8th, 2018 the China-Italian Chamber of Commerce had the honor to participate in the launch of the team SCUT-PoliTo’s project that will participate in the 2018 China International Solar Decathlon Contest.
The Solar Decathlon Contest - China 2018 is co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and China National Energy Administration, a collegiate competition of 10 contests that challenge student teams to build a single (or two) story solar house with a finished area of 120-200 m2 and equipped with all necessary household appliances. The winner of the competition will be the team that best blends design excellence and smart energy production with innovation, market potential, and energy and water efficiency. This time 22 teams consisting of 41 schools from 10 countries and regions will be competing in Dezhou, Shandong Province in July and August.
In this SDC edition, South China University of Technology and Politecnico di Torino made a team aiming to use the achievement of two colleges in architectural design and construction technology to seek the potential of solar building integration in the future market promotion.
The team SCUT-PoliTo aims to build a new model of a long and narrow house “LONG PLAN” on the base of improving the living environment of old style long and narrow residence. This model is based on the background of high-speed urbanization and it is made thinking at the concept that the urban land resources are not abundant and old urban areas are now in urgent need of renovation.
The Project Completion Ceremony was the occasion to reunite all the supporters, sponsors, instructors and to thank them for their support. After the ceremony the audience had the occasion to go to the construction site, located in the SCUT Campus, to visit the main structure and enclosure construction that will reach the completion soon.
The event was the occasion to reunite altogether the SCUT and PoliTo professors and leaders, the chines and Italian students team together with the Italian representatives from the Italian Consulate in Guangzhou and the CICC Guangzhou team.
